Zoo Ambassador Student Volunteers
Calling all secondary students! Become an ambassador for wildlife at your Toronto Zoo!
The Zoo Ambassador program offers a unique opportunity to interact with guests, develop communication skills, and contribute to the Zoo's mission. You’ll share important conservation messages with kids and families at interactive learning stations like Nature Play and Growing Up Orangutan, and support on-site special events like Wild Toy Animal Hospital and Boo at the Zoo. During the summer, you can also have fun working with our youngest guests at Zoo Camp!
This program is suitable for students who:
- Are enrolled in a full-time secondary school program (Grades 9-12), and are between 14-18 years of age at time of application
- Can commit to contributing a minimum of 30 hours per year (which includes training and volunteer shifts at the Zoo)
- Are enthusiastic and have excellent communication and customer service skills
- Have an appreciation for/some knowledge of nature and wildlife
- Are mature, dependable, and able to work independently and as part of a team
- Are environmentally responsible and support the Zoo’s conservation mission
- Enjoy working with the public, especially children
Training:
- Successful applicants must attend a mandatory, two-day training course in March before volunteering at the Zoo
- Upon turning 18, Zoo Ambassadors must obtain a satisfactory Police Reference Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check at their own expense
