TORONTO, ON, Friday, November 21, 2025: Today was a day filled with nostalgia, celebrating the history and pride of Scarborough and your Toronto Zoo. Partners from the TTC, invited VIP guests, and many elected officials came for the unveiling of a beloved piece of Scarborough’s past — an iconic Scarborough Rapid Transit (SRT) car, now permanently on display at your Toronto Zoo. The refurbished SRT car will serve as the Tundra Zoomobile Station stop beginning early December, allowing guests the opportunity to access the car while they are waiting for the Zoomobile. In partnership with the TTC, this collaboration recognizes the deep connections of Scarborough and its residents, with many stories emerging of people’s memories of time spent on this transit line.

“Whether it was riding the SRT or a trip to your Toronto Zoo many years ago, these memories took minutes to form, and have lasted for years” says Dolf DeJong, CEO, Toronto Zoo. “Decades later they stay with us, and we are honoured to now have this piece of Scarborough as part of a shared past. This is a chance to bring together, past, present and future, and to create new memories and moments. For our community, this SRT is part of a shared journey, and we are proud to display it here today”.

Prior to July 2023, the SRT line ran entirely within the Eastern district of Scarborough, encompassing six stations and 6.4 kilometres (4.0 mi) of mostly elevated track. It was connected with Line 2 Bloor-Danforth at its southwestern terminus, Kennedy, and terminated in the northeast at McCowan. Until its closure in July 2023, the system had a ridership of 4,720,000 per year.
