Zoo Camp Handbook

Zoo Camp takes place at the Toronto Zoo. All campers remain on Zoo property and do not leave the site.

Toronto Zoo is an accredited member of the Ontario Camps Association, part of a unique group of camps who maintain the highest standards of safety, food services, leadership, programs and administration. For more information, please visit ontariocampsassociation.ca.

The Toronto Zoo is committed to environmental protection and awareness, and innovative action toward sustainable operations. Our dedication stems from a deep appreciation for biodiversity preservation and animal welfare. The Zoo's environmental initiatives can be viewed at torontozoo.com/fightingextinction.

As part of this commitment, we encourage all campers to bring a litterless lunch and re-usable water bottle.

During your time at camp, you may be filmed, videotaped or photographed by or on behalf of the Toronto Zoo. Your child's attendance at camp serves as your permission for use of this image by the Toronto Zoo for promotion of the Zoo's education programs.

All camps for children ages 4 to 16 are full day from Monday to Friday. Camp hours are from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. Before Care hours are from 7:45 am to 9:00 am and After Care hours are from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.

Zoo Camp counsellors are post-secondary level students, hired for their experience, leadership, and enthusiasm for working with children.

Our pre-camp training prepares Zoo Camp counsellors to work with a variety of children throughout the summer. All Zoo Camp counsellors are required to submit a Police Reference Check (vulnerable sector check).

Zoo Camp counsellors are supported by various administrative, programming, and supervisory staff in the Learning & Engagement office. Student Volunteers may also assist the counsellors in providing a safe and memorable camp experience to participants. Zoo Camp also relies on the teamwork of many other Zoo Divisions including Wildlife Care, Guest Operations, and Health & Safety.
