E-Waste Collection

Do you ever wonder what happens to your old electronics, also known as e-waste?

Over 50 million tonnes of e-waste is produced every year and only 15-20% of it is recycled properly, while the remaining 80-85% of e-waste is sent directly to the landfill! Electronics are valuable and potentially hazardous materials that need to be recycled properly.

Bring your e-waste to the Toronto Zoo on Saturday, April 20, 2024 or Sunday April 21, 2024 to recognize Earth Day (April 22) and support great ape conservation! Materials found in our electronics are mined from the same region Lowland Gorillas call home, and by recycling your electronics you are reducing the demand to mine in that region. All donations from the event are in support of PhoneApes Toronto Zoo | Cell Phone Recycling at the Toronto Zoo and will be responsibly recycled in Ontario.

The Toronto Zoo will be accepting a number of electronics including Monitors, TVs, Computers, Notebooks, Servers, Wire, Aluminum, Keyboards, Computer Mice, Electronic Scrap, Small Appliances, Laptops, Tablets, iPods, Radios and, of course, Cellphones.

Collection will be located in the Zoo’s Passenger Drop-Off Loop (intersection of Meadowvale Rd and Zoo Rd) from 10:00am to 3:30pm. Entry to the Zoo is NOT required to donate any old electronics!

Rain Barrel Sale

Planning to drop off your e-waste and want to make another eco-friendly choice for Earth Day? Pre-purchase a rain barrel for starting at $65.00 including HST at www.rainbarrel.ca/torontozoo and pick it up at the Drop-Off Loop on April 20th or 21st! Funds raised through this sale will support green initiatives at Your Toronto Zoo!

Rain barrels are a great way to reduce your water bill and help save the environment. Did you know that with the average amount of rain that runs off a roof in a year, you could flush your toilet more than 30 times a day?! Using a rain barrel to catch rainfall from your roof provides an inexpensive way to water your garden and return water to the ground instead of storm water systems.

Order by April 13th, order early to secure your choice in colour, as terracotta, blue and taupe barrels as limited quantities won’t last long. Don’t forget your receipt in order to quickly pick up your rain barrel! Limited quantities will be available for purchase on April 20th and 21st*
*While supplies last

Pick-up and Sale will be located in the Zoo’s Passenger Drop-Off Loop (intersection of Meadowvale Rd and Zoo Rd) from 10:00am to 3:30pm. Entry to the Zoo is NOT required to participate!
