ANIMAL WELFARE WELLIE:
COMMUNITY CHOICE AWARD
NOMINEE

Bringing tamanduas into our outreach team has been a collaborative effort from the beginning, and the challenges along the way have demanded cooperation and true spirit across multiple teams here at your Toronto Zoo.
Those steps have include securing a breeding pair, coordinating ongoing veterinary care, adding outdoor access with horticulture and maintenance teams, strengthening habitats with facilities support, initiating introductions and breeding with Reproductive and Welfare Science staff, and delivering intensive Guardian training for essential medical procedures as well as high-quality outreach behaviours and experiences.
As you can see, so many members from across the Zoo have helped these animals to thrive in our care, and it is thanks to everyone’s hard work that we are getting closer and closer to our goal of having a breeding Species Survival Plan (SSP) pair.
The WOW that these animals have already created with staff, volunteers, members and guests alike is only the beginning, and it is thanks to everyone’s perseverance that we can continue to push forward and revolutionize what our outreach team can do.
