On behalf of the staff and volunteers at your Toronto Zoo, we are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dr. Jane Goodall and extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends. To honour her incredible legacy and lifelong dedication to animals, conservation, and inspiring hope for a better world we have lowered our flags.
Dr. Goodall was not only a pioneering scientist and one of the world’s most influential conservation leaders, but also a tireless advocate for animal welfare and stronger protection for wildlife here in Canada and around the world.

Her efforts inspired generations of Canadians to take action for the planet, strengthened calls for meaningful legislative change, including the introduction of the Jane Goodall Act (Bill S-241) and guided many in our own Zoo community to commit to building a future where wildlife and people can thrive together.
We honour her life, her voice, and her enduring legacy, and we are profoundly grateful for the paths she blazed in science, conservation, and advocacy.
Dr. Goodall’s legacy lives on in every young mind she inspired, every species saved through her influence, and in the work we continue at your Toronto Zoo to protect wildlife and safeguard hope for future generations.
Guests are invited to come to your Toronto Zoo to sign books of condolences which will be given to the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada. These will be set up in the Indo Malaya Pavilion at the outdoor orangutan habitat, in the African Rainforest Pavilion at the gorilla habitat, and in the Wildlife Health and Science Centre viewing gallery. We encourage our community to visit https://janegoodall.ca to learn more about her amazing legacy.
