Northern Two-lined Salamander

- Larvae length 40-65mm
- Brownish-yellowish slender body with rows of small, pale spots on back; dark broken stripe extends from gills to tail; older larvae with brown band on back and additional yellow spots on sides; squarish snout
- Distinctive short reddish-brown gills; posterior gill largest
- Tail musculature same colour as body; costal grooves present
- Eggs: anchored to underside of logs or rocks in steadily moving streams
- Habitat: larvae found in streams and seeps; range in Ontario is east of Georgian Bay and generally north of the 45th parallel
