    Ambystoma maculatum - Larvae length 40-65mm
- Olive to brown with a dull yellow to cream belly; may have dark dorsal spots
- Large transparent to lightly pigmented tail fin with light specks, black towards tip in older larvae
- 
            Dorsal tail fin extends onto body almost to front legs
              
- Eggs: large, round cluster with 40-120 eggs embedded in firm jelly-like matrix; egg mass may appear cloudy-white or transparent green; attached to submerged branches
- Habitat: woodland ponds and vernal pools
