Northern cricket frog

Acris crepitans
  • Small 2.5cm frog
  • Dark triangular shaped mark between the eyes
  • Red to brown with brown or black blotches
  • Horizontal stripes in the hind legs
  • Only found on Pelee Island, Lake Erie
  • It likes warm, sandy areas along the shores of ponds, marshes, flooded field ditches and small streams.
  • ENDANGERED

The call of the male Blanchard's Cricket Frog is described as a rapid clicking. Sightings in Ontario are extremely rare.
