BUNDLE UP FOR POLAR BEARS
Thanks to the individuals, families, and businesses that registered and participated in our "Bundle Up for Polar Bears" initiative in celebration of International Polar Bear Day on February 27th.
The results are in,... and our combined efforts resulted in a savings of approximately 258 kg (569 lbs) of CO2. That's the equivalent of about seven tree seedlings grown for 10 years to remove that amount of CO2 from our air! If all Canadians turned down their thermostat by just two degrees over the winter months the amount of carbon emissions we could save would be equivalent to taking over 350,000 cars off the roads. By using energy wisely, we can have an impact on helping to slow or even reverse climate change and "keep it cool" to protect the sea ice these bears depend on for survival.
The Toronto Zoo and the polar bears thank YOU for your participation! We hope you'll continue to take action by reducing your thermostat by two degrees in the winter and increasing it by two degrees in the summer, and join in the tradition again next year when we hope to get even more people involved!
Keep up the great work!
