Celebrate Family This Family Day Weekend
at the Toronto Zoo!

Why not spend Family Day Weekend with the Toronto Zoo including three of our newest family members Charlie, the Western lowland gorilla, Kiran, the greater one-horned rhinoceros  and Penelope the pygmy hippo. Take in one of our daily Keeper Talks, Carnivore Feedings, award-winning exhibits, including our Tundra Trek, home to polar bears and arctic wolves or take part in our National Hippo Day celebrations, winter Orchid Oasis or sign up for our family Owl Prowl. It’s a weekend full of family-fun!

National Hippo Day Celebrations
Pygmy Hippo Exhibit, Africa Rainforest Pavilion

In celebration of National Hippo Day (February 15th), the Toronto Zoo is hosting events each day of Family Day Weekend. Join us at the Pygmy Hippopotamus Exhibit where you can meet our adorable pygmy hippo family including dad Harvey (24), mom Kindia (12), and baby Penelope (6 months).  The weekend will be filled with meet-the-keeper talks, enrichment presentations and family activities.  Also join us for our meet-the-keeper talks and enrichment presentations at 11:00am and 1:00pm. Guests will learn how deforestation is affecting the hippo populations and how, if more is not done, they are on their way to being considered critically endangered and why the Toronto Zoo participates in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) for Pygmy hippos to help save and protect this species. Coming in June! Join us this June 15th and 16th when we celebrate 2019 Hippo Awareness Weekend with both the river and pygmy hippos! * All free with Zoo admission. Subject to change without notice.

The Zoo’s Horticulturists have hand-picked a variety of orchid species to showcase in our Greenhouse just outside the Wildlife Health Centre. Guests can drop by Saturday, February 16 to Monday, February 18, 2019 from 10am to 4pm to take in the beautiful exotic flowers. Free with Zoo admission and subject to change without notice.

Sunday February 17, 2019
Owl Prowl Family Program
7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for a real hoot of an evening while we learn about the different species of owls that live in our area and why they are special hunters of the night. The evening will also include a special outreach owl visitor and it's Wildlife Care Keepers, then under the wintry moonlight, we’ll venture out into the Zoo for a “prowl” of our own and attempt to discover some owls, or other creatures, of the wild.

Please be advised that the Wildlife Health Centre Viewing Gallery will be closed for Doors Open Toronto and it will re-open on Monday, 2019-05-27. Those wishing to take part in Doors Open Toronto must enter via the Administrative Complex located at 361A Old Finch Ave. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Please note that the Zoo’s hours on Saturday, June 1, 2019 will be 10:00am to 7:00pm.

The Zoo is hosting a private event for SickKids Hospital from 8:00am to 10:00am.
