Spring Toad and Salamander Festival

Saturday, May 5, 2018
10am to 4pm (free with zoo admission)
Location: Americas Wetland

Celebrate the arrival of spring by experiencing the sights and sounds of amorous male toads in search of that special someone! Our annual wetland festival is scheduled around the explosive breeding ritual of American toads at our very own Americas Wetlands Outdoor Exhibit. Although the emergence and courtship of toads is the main event, there are heaps of other fun activities for children and adults alike, including: air brush tattoos, frog themed games like “Fish for a Prize,” Toady the Mascot, and information on how to become a Frog Watcher or Turtle Detective using our improved online form and new app. It’s “toad-ally” fun for the whole family! Frog and toad wristbands are available for $2 purchase. Event free with zoo admission.

All proceeds support the Adopt-A-Pond Wetland Conservation Program, whose conservation projects target wetlands and species such as the Blanding’s turtle and Massasauga rattlesnake.

Have you started reporting your frog and turtle sightings with the new Adopt-A-Pond Citizen Science app? App users will receive a “Conservation Supporter” badge for attending Spring Toad Festival to show off in their online profiles! Don’t have the app yet? Download it from Google Play or the iOS App Store before attending and then be sure to visit us at the Americas Wetlands to get your badge.
