Pygmy Hippo Exhibit, Africa Rainforest Pavilion
10:00 am – 3:00 pm

In celebration of National Hippo Day, on February 15th, the Toronto Zoo is hosting an event on Family Day Weekend. Join us at the Pygmy Hippopotamus Exhibit where you can meet our adorable pygmy hippo family including dad Harvey (24), mom Kindia (12), and baby Penelope (6 months).  The day will be filled with meet-the-keeper talks, enrichment presentations, and family activities.  Also join us for our meet-the-keeper talks and enrichment presentations at 11:00am and 1:00pm. Guests will learn how deforestation is affecting the hippo populations and how, if more is not done, they are on their way to being considered critically endangered and why the Toronto Zoo participates in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) for Pygmy hippos to help save and protect this species.

Coming in June! Join us this June 15th and 16th when we celebrate 2019 Hippo Awareness Weekend with both the river and pygmy hippos!
