JELLYFISH FOCUS OF NEW ART EXHIBIT
"PLASTIC ABYSS"
May 6 to June 22, 2008

What: A thought-provoking display of paintings by Buffalo artist Kara Daving. The artwork, in drawing on the similarities between jellyfish and plastic bags, highlights the problems plastic bags cause in polluting the world's oceans. The paintings are acrylic on retail plastic bags. This unusual display ties in with the Toronto Zoo's NEW for 2008 Great Barrier Reef exhibits which will feature moon jellyfish for the first time. The new moon jellies exhibit, which is in the Australasia Pavilion, open to the public on May 16th. Ms. Daving's work will be on display in the Education Building foyer from May 6th to June 22nd, 2008. In addition, selected paintings will be permanently on display in the Zoo's Great Barrier Reef section of the Australasia Pavilion. Original paintings, as well as selected prints, are available for sale at the Zoo. Ms Daving can be reached at www.karadaving.com. Conservation is a dominant theme in Kara Daving's work, which is exhibited in North America and internationally. Although Ms Daving exhibits in galleries, she often displays in conjunction with zoos and aquariums.
