World Rhino Awareness Weekend

Saturday, September 23 and Sunday, September 24, 2017

Join us to celebrate and help save rhinos! All over the world, zoos and conservation organizations will unite during the month of September to celebrate these amazing pachyderms. Rhinos are in desperate need of our help as poaching of this magnificent animal is on the rise. The current poaching rate is an alarming one rhino every eight hours. Did you know that wild rhinos face the threat of extinction within the next 15 years without extreme conservation efforts? However, endangered means we still have time to save them so join us and find out how YOU can help!

Indian Rhino Exhibit, Indo-Malaya
9:30 am – 3:00 pm

Visit the Indian Rhino Exhibit where you can enjoy an assortment of rhino themed activities and educational interpretive stations. Don’t forget to take in a special Keeper Talk at 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm where you can find out how you can make a difference and help save Indian rhinos.

Calling all Rhino lovers!
Don’t miss your chance for a special close encounter with one of our three the Indian Rhinos. Register today as space is limited.
Close encounters are only available September 23 and September 24, 2017.
Cost (Per Person): $50.00
(Price does not include admission or parking into the Toronto Zoo)
Time: 12:00 noon OR 2:00 pm
Space is limited, maximum of 10 people per time slot, per day, available.
*Online registration closes at 4 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2017.
** Must present copy of receipt at Indian Rhino Exhibit.

White Rhino Exhibit, African Savanna
10:00 - 3:00 pm

The Toronto Zoo has two of the five species of rhinos that are left on the planet and their wild counterparts need our help! Join us at the White Rhino Exhibit located in the Africa Savanna to find out how you can help protect this magnificent species from extinction. Come out and learn about the role white rhinos have in their environment and how, by saving them, we save all the other species that coexist within their habitat. Speak with one of our Rhino Keepers at 12:00 noon and 2:30 pm during a special meet the keeper talk to learn more. Don’t forget to stop by our information and activity areas for rhino themed merchandise, silent auction items, including a one of a kind white rhino print, and more!

Please be advised that due to special/private events, the Panda Interpretive Centre will be closed on the following days:
  • Friday, 2017-12-08 at 1:00 pm to Sunday, 2017-12-10. It will re-open at 9:30 am on 2017-12-11.
The giant panda exhibit will still be open to visitors during these closures.
