TORONTO, ON, Saturday, July 10, 2021:  Today, your Toronto Zoo proudly welcomed the first buses and passengers travelling on the new GO bus route which will provide weekend service directly to the Zoo until September 6, 2021.

“This first-ever GO service is part of the Zoo’s commitment to expand transit options for our guests to visit their Zoo easily, with a variety of transit options,” said Dolf DeJong, Toronto Zoo CEO. “Accessibility is a priority at our Zoo, and finding new partnerships like this one with Metrolinx are essential to encouraging more opportunities to visit our Zoo, and in turn will help us reach wider audiences to share our animals and their critical conservation stories. With our planet facing a global crisis in wildlife survival, with nearly one million species facing extinction due to habitat loss, human activity and climate change, it has never been more important to bring people together to effect positive change.”

“Ontario is excited to be launching this new bus pilot service,” said Vijay Thanigasalam, MPP for Scarborough-Rouge Park. “This demonstrates that as the province safely reopens, our government is helping connect people and families to the attractions in their communities, including one of the Greater Golden Horseshoe’s best tourist attractions located here in Scarborough.”

“We are excited to launch this pilot to give people another convenient way to get to the Toronto Zoo this summer,” said Metrolinx President and CEO Phil Verster. “As we welcome back more customers each day, we are continuing to deliver more transit options to safely get them where they want to go.”

The weekend pilot service will begin today, July 10, 2021 and run until September 6, 2021, allowing customers to take GO Bus Route 96Z directly to the Toronto Zoo.
