  • Larvae length 40-60mm
  • Brownish to olive green body; 3-6 yellowish to olive green "saddles" or paired blotches along midline of back; heavily pigmented or mottled dorsal surface
  • Short/small eye stripe; well pigmented throat
  • Dorsal tail fin mottled with dark pigment
  • Eggs: clusters of 6-30 attached to under water vegetation
  • Hybridizes with Blue-Spotted Salamander; hybrids are female, and both adults and larvae appear similar to parent species
  • Canadian population found only on Pelee Island in Lake Erie
  • COSEWIC: ENDANGERED; OMNR: ENDANGERED
