YOUR TORONTO ZOO IS PROUD TO BE NAMED ONE OF GREATER TORONTO'S TOP EMPLOYERS FOR 2022

TORONTO, ON, Monday, December 6, 2021: Your Toronto Zoo is proud to be named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for 2022, highlighting the best places to work in the region. Now celebrating its 16th year, the Greater Toronto’s Top Employers project is a regional competition to determine which employers lead their industries in offering exceptional workplaces for their employees. The competition has become exceptionally strong and competitive – so much so that for Toronto-area employers, the minimum scores to secure a place on the GTA list routinely rank among the highest in the nation.

Employers are evaluated using eight criteria, which have remained consistent since the project’s inception: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

Your Toronto Zoo stood out as one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for 2022 based on criteria including the following:

  • Toronto Zoo supports ongoing employee development with tuition subsidies for courses related and not directly related to their current position as well as in-house training and apprenticeship training
  • Toronto Zoo supports the longer-term goals of its employees through a defined benefit pension plan as well as a health benefits plan that extends to retirees
  • Toronto Zoo extended the company’s employee assistance program to all non-permanent employees to provide additional support and increased online communications on subjects including health and safety, employee wellness as well as evolving pandemic-related concerns

“We are honoured that your Toronto Zoo has been chosen as one of the top employers for 2022 in the GTA,” said Dolf DeJong, CEO, Toronto Zoo. “Your Zoo has worked hard to create an inclusive and positive workspace for our amazing employees. Our team includes wildlife care professionals, experts in veterinary, nutrition, reproductive and animal welfare sciences, conservationists, skilled trades, guest experience champions and extensive support staff. Development and continued learning opportunities in every area enable your Toronto Zoo to deliver the highest level of animal care and guest experiences here while delivering conservation programming that reaches around the globe. We are so proud of our staff and are committed to continuing to work with them to create a safe, positive and encouraging environment,” he added.
