MICROSOFT CANADA DONATES OVER TWO MILLION DOLLARS IN SOFTWARE TO TORONTO ZOOThursday, October 16, 2014- The Toronto Zoo is pleased to be the recipient of a generous donation of software from Microsoft Canada in support of Engaging Youth in Conservation."Microsoft Canada is proud to support the Toronto Zoo with this grant," said Dennis Lopes, Microsoft Canada's Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs. "We are excited about helping the Toronto Zoo with its conservation and education efforts, and the creation of greater learning opportunities for young people and educators".
The software donation, part of Microsoft Canada'sTech4Good Program, will help the Toronto Zoo to develop standardized and professional communication with teachers and their students, both on-site and in the classroom. "This generous donation allows the Toronto Zoo to move the important education and communication message on saving and protecting species forward," said Marion Zimmer, Senior Development Officer Toronto Zoo. "We are truly thankful to Microsoft Canada and look forward to new and exciting ways in which we can reach educators, students and research professionals". The entire organization, from Zoo Administration to our Wildlife Curators and Research Specialists, will be able to communicate on a multitude of levels with institutions and research centres throughout the world regarding environmental, animal, conservation and education activities. The donation allows for learning to take place virtually through distance learning, interactive kiosks and videos. One example of how the software is being used is the series of presentations for varying grade levels as part of their new Panda Program and a presentation for teachers that highlights the Toronto Zoo's curriculum-based field trip offerings. In 2014 the Toronto Zoo is celebrating 40 years of saving and protecting animals and their habitats at home and abroad. -30-
