Join us as we travel back in time to explore the secrets of zoo history, with our special guest speaker Dr. Daniel Vandersommers. Author of Entangled Encounters at the National Zoo (2023), Lead Editor of the journal Animal History, and co-editor of Zoo Studies A New Humanities (2019), Dan is an environmental historian at the University of Dayton who studies the cultural meanings of animals across the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Listen as he uses hidden stories to explore scientific cultures and cultural sciences in zoos, while focusing on a variety of monkey and soaring bird species.
