Celebrate North America’s oldest Sumatran Orangutan and the oldest resident at the Zoo!
- 10:00am Birthday Cake And Enrichment
- 1:00pm Keeper Talk
Join us in celebrating her 56th Birthday with a birthday cake this Saturday and some special enrichment fit for a queen. Puppe has been at the Toronto Zoo since opening in 1974 and has had five children and five grandchildren. She arrived to the Zoo on September 7, 1973, so we honour her birthday each year in September.
Being with us since 1974, her care has had to evolve with her age, as it does with all of our geriatric animals as they live out their golden years here at the Zoo. Although an aging animal population comes with its challenges at times, our dedicated Wildlife Care team makes the necessary adjustments and accommodations to ensure top-notch quality care each and every day for our geriatric animals, allowing them to often live longer and healthier lives than they could in their wild habitats.
