Green Eco-Zoo Team

The Green Eco-Zoo Team (GEZT) is a non-technical advisory committee to the Chief Executive Officer. GEZT replaced the Environmental Protection Committee that had been in place since 1995. The "Green Team" addresses the environmental impacts of Zoo operations, policies and procedures, and makes recommendations that will lessen our ecological footprint in the Rouge Valley and on the earth. Kyla Greenham, Manager of Conservation Programs & Environment, chairs GEZT.  Members appointed to the committee are from a wide range of Zoo divisions and units. Zoo staff and volunteers are encouraged to address issues concerning our environmental impact on the site.

Members of GEZT have championed engagement activities such as the People Power Challenge, Plastic Free July Campaign, Party for the Planet and Waste Free Wednesdays. They also help assess the current state of sustainable progress by regularly conducting waste audits, lighting audits, sustainable palm oil audit, the annual ISO14001 EMS internal audit and report on this progress with the annual Environmental Initiatives Report to the Board of Management for the Toronto Zoo.
