World Rhino Awareness Weekend

Saturday, September 23 and
Sunday, September 24, 2017

Join us to celebrate and help save rhinos! All over the world, zoos and conservation organizations will unite during the month of September to celebrate these amazing pachyderms. Rhinos are in desperate need of our help as poaching of this magnificent animal is on the rise. The current poaching rate is an alarming one rhino every eight hours. Did you know that wild rhinos face the threat of extinction within the next 15 years without extreme conservation efforts? However, endangered means we still have time to save them so join us and find out how YOU can help!

Penguin Awareness Weekend

Saturday, September 30 and
Sunday, October 1, 2017

Calling all children, adults & penguin pals! Come and join us from 11:00 am-3:00 pm at the African Penguin exhibit where you can meet your lovable feathered friends. The day will be filled with special meet & greets, face painting, family activities and draws for unique penguin prizes. Don't forget to join us at 12:30pm for a special Keeper Talk, and 1:00pm for a penguin encounter!

African penguins are currently listed as an Endangered Species and it is projected that they could be extinct in the next 10 to 15 years. The wild population has dropped 95% in the last 100 years. Join us this weekend to learn how YOU can help penguins in the wild. The Toronto Zoo participates in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) for African penguins, and 100% of this weekend's proceeds will be donated to the South African non-profit "SANCCOB" and their amazing efforts in seabird rehabilitation and reintroduction.
