There's a new giraffe in town!
The Toronto Zoo's Masai giraffe, Kiko, has been released from CFIA quarantine. Be sure to visit the Masai Giraffe Exhibit, located in the African Savanna, and give him a warm Canadian welcome.
Kiko arrived to the Toronto Zoo from the Greenville Zoo in South Carolina. Born October 22, 2012 Kiko is almost three years old, and is very close in age to our young female calf Mstari. The Toronto Zoo participates in the Species Survival Plan (SSP) to ensure we have a healthy self-sustained population of animals that are genetically diverse. Kiko and Mstari will be introduced so they can get to know each other before they hit maturity around five years of age, in hopes that we will have some new baby giraffes added to our Zoo family.
The Toronto Zoo is proud to announce that Hi-Tec Sports Canada, a leader in sports and outdoor footwear, will be sponsoring the Trekking for Rhinos event on September 19, 2015 at the Toronto Zoo.
The top three fundraisers for the event will be awarded a pair of Hi-Tec Altitude V Hiking Boots. Hi-Tec has also kindly donated 20 pairs of hiking boots for a Rhino Ranger unit in Indonesia.
