Toronto Zoos PhoneApes Conservation Program

The Toronto Zoo and City of Toronto have partnered to recycle cellphones to increase awareness about environmental damages occurring in Africa for the production of electronics and raise funds for great ape conservation efforts in Africa.

 As of October 2014, collection boxes for the PhoneApes recycling program are permanently located in 11 City of Toronto major corporate buildings to encourage City staff and residents to recycle their personal cell phones.

Collection boxes can be found in the public spaces listed below, just look for the PhonesApes logo:

1) Metro Hall

2) City Hall

3) North York Civic Centre

4) Computer Centre

5) Multiple Tenants

6) East York Civic Centre

7) Etobicoke Civic Centre Building

8) Multi Tenant Building

9) Scarborough Civic Centre

10) Public Health

11) Toronto Public Health

All funds raised from donated phones goes to in field conservation efforts and to protecting the habitat of the Lowland Gorillas in Africa. The Toronto Zoo would like to thank GEEP (Global Electric Electronic Processing) for their support and efforts in making this partnership possible.

Come our to the Tundra Trek every Saturday in December at 1:30pm to watch our Reindeer get
special holiday themed treats and meet their keepers.

The kids are on holiday break so why not enjoy some family time at the Toronto Zoo. With over 10K of scenic walking trails, indoor and exotic pavilions, animal encounters and more the Toronto Zoo is the place to be this holiday season! Join us for daily animal encounters in our Panda Interpretive Centre at 11am and 2pm* and don't forget to visit our new indoor giraffe house,and the newly opened Eurasia Wilds. The Toronto Zoo is the place to be on Boxing Day! Join us for half price admission for everyone all day on December 26th. Meet in our front entrance courtyard at 10:30am to begin a guided walk through the NEW Eurasia Wilds to see what delightful seasonal treats await the Zoo's animals. Please bring a non-perishable item for the Daily Bread Food Bank and any old cellphones to help support great ape conservation. Happy Holidays! *Please note this is an outdoor event and subject to change without notice and all proceeds from this day go to the Endangered Species Reserve Fund.
