African Penguin Encounter Opportunity 

Daily, 1:00pm

This long weekend, Toronto Zoo visitors will be greeted by a special penguin encounter at the penguin exhibit, daily at 1pm.  This will be taking place until Monday September 1st.  Media are invited to come out for a sneak peak on Friday, August 29th at 1pm to meet our feathered friends up close. 

 


The "Keys" to Conservation

Daily, Labour Day Weekend

Time to tune-up for Conservation! This weekend, come out and enjoy some piano playing by Steinway Piano Gallery Toronto in the Giant Panda Interpretive Centre.

International Vulture Awareness Day

Discovery Zone Courtyard & African Savanna 11:00am to 4:00pm

Did you know turkey vultures find their food using their sense of smell? Did you know that vultures poop on their legs to cool themselves? Did you know that vultures can soar for six hours without flapping their wings? Want to learn more cool facts? Come to the zoo on August 30th for the Fourth Annual International Vulture Awareness Day and see firsthand how the Toronto Zoo is helping vultures in the wild. PLUS compare your arm span to the wing span of a vultures and be sure to bring a camera so you can show the difference to your family and friends! Remember, bald is beautiful!
 

Black-footed Ferret Day

Join us to celebrate this critically endangered species and the zoo's longest-running captive breeding and release program.There will be activities, raffles and ferret swag available to support wild black-footed ferret conservation. Meet some live ferrets at our special Meet the Black-Footed Ferret Keeper talks at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.

Recently retired?  Empty nest syndrome?  Kids in school?  The Zoo Needs YOU!  Join the Toronto Zoo's diverse team of active and outgoing adult Volunteers.  We are now recruiting for the Year-Round Volunteer program and the winter Giant Panda Ambassador Interpretive Volunteer Program.

Join us as the grizzlies, African penguins, polar bears and Sumatran tigers receive a special frozen treat every Friday this summer. Keepers will be on hand to meet with our visitors and answer questions about the importance of these four animals, how the zoo is helping to save and protect them and why the Toronto Zoo offers our animals frozen treats as part of our Enrichment Program. Each session is approximately 20 minutes in length and free with admission. So far the animals are visitors are loving it!

Grizzlies - Canadian Domain 1:00pm to 1:20pm
African penguins - African Savanna 12:30pm to 12:50pm
Polar bears - Tundra Trek 3:00pm to 3:20pm
Sumatran tigers - Indo-Malaya 2:30pm to 2:50pm

This summer the Toronto Zoo and Parks Canada are working together to protect wildlife and have joined forces to help educate our visitors on Canadian wilderness, heritage, biodiversity and culture. Until Saturday, August 30th, Parks Canada staff will be on site in various locations throughout the Zoo site engaging visitors within the natural environment of Canada's premier zoo.

The following outlines the different programs that Parks Canada Staff will be delivering this summer for Toronto Zoo visitors. Please note these programs are subject to change without notice, weather dependent and are included with zoo admission.

  • Early Childhood Educators currently working in a full-day kindergarten classroom in a school setting

White Rhino Exhibit and Indian Rhino Exhibit, 11:00am to 4:00pm

All over the world, zoos and conservation organizations will unite during the month of September to celebrate these amazing pachyderms! Rhinos are in desperate need of our help as poaching of this magnificent species is on the rise. Did you know that the rhino faces the threat of extinction? This year alone over 600 rhinos have been poached; that is three rhinos a day! The Toronto Zoo has two of the five species of rhinos that exist on the planet and their wild cousins need our help. Join us and find what the Toronto Zoo is doing to help save and protect these magnificant species, learn about rhinos and their habitats and their role in their environments and take in a special Keeper Talk at 12:00pm and 2:00pm (Indian Rhino) and 1:00pm and 4:00pm (White Rhino).
