TORONTO ZOO OPEN FOR BUSINESS

May 4, 2005, Toronto, Ontario. Toronto Zoo announces today that negotiations between the Zoo and CUPE Local 1600 have been extended from the Sunday, May 1st deadline to Monday, May 16th. While the collective agreement is still being negotiated the Toronto Zoo is open for business.

"While both sides continue to talk, the Toronto Zoo remains open for our visitors and we will not lock our employees out." comments Zoo CEO Calvin White. "We are hopeful of a positive outcome on May 16th".

CUPE Local 1600 represents 169 full-time and 172 part-time and seasonal employees at the Zoo including Zoo Keepers, Maintenance, Horticulture, Clerical and front-line Guest Services and Membership staff.
