Peter Evans
Chief Executive Officer, Toronto Zoo


As the CEO of the Toronto Zoo, Peter Evans is actively involved in the development of the Greater Toronto community. A senior executive with over 30 years of international managerial experience in the financial industry, Peter was most recently with the Canadian branch of a large American bank and its legacy entities. He has served for the past 15 years as a member of the Management Board of the Toronto Zoo (Vice-Chair) and the Toronto Zoo Foundation (Chair), including a period as Chairman. Peter has also provided leadership in the area of sustainable development though a regional project recognized by the United Nation Centers of Expertise program.




Ron Seftel
Senior Vice President Operations, Bullfrog Power


Ron joined Bullfrog Power in 2007 and brings with him over 15 years of operational and strategic planning experience. As SVP, Operations, Ron is responsible for leading the transition of Bullfrog Power from a start-up organization with a unique offering to becoming the de facto market leader. By creating and communicating a consistent set of strategic goals and objectives, the Company has established a direct relationship between the success of individual employees and the success of the company. In addition, Ron also plays an active role in the sourcing and procurement of Bullfrog's renewable energy supply portfolio and has built up an in-depth knowledge of the Canadian renewable energy industry.

Prior to joining the company, Ron held senior operational and financial positions with several public and privately held Canadian entrepreneurial organizations. Ron graduated from the University of Waterloo and is a Chartered Accountant and Certified Public Accountant.

Karen Clarke-Whistler

Karen is responsible for setting TDBFG's environmental strategy and ensuring that our performance is in line with our goal of becoming a North American financial services industry leader on the environment. At TD Bank environment is treated as an enterprise-wide strategic business issue, encompassing our operational footprint, finance and lending, product development, economics and public policy dialogue, and engagement of our employees, customers and stakeholders.

Karen is an environmental scientist with more than 20 years of experience working on issues related to the environment and sustainable development. Prior to joining TD Bank in 2008 she had a distinguished consulting career working with clients around the world in the natural resources and energy sectors. She has provided advice on environment and social risk to the World Bank and the IFC as well as a number of publicly traded financial institutions.

Scott Kress
President and Founder, Summit Training & Development Ltd


Years of experience, two undergraduate degrees and a Masters in Leadership and Training provide Scott with unique qualifications to design and deliver some of the most innovative corporate experiential based training available today.

He has summitted peaks throughout North America, South America, Africa and the Himalayas including Mount Everest and three other of the seven summits. Scott has designed a dynamic keynote presentation based on his team and leadership lessons while climbing the highest peaks in the world. Scott has only one goal; to assist teams, leaders, and individuals in reaching their peak performance. This is accomplished through combining the latest team and leadership theory with cutting edge experiential training to create one of the most effective training programs available today.

Scott is also a professor for the University Of Windsor Odette School Of Business, and teaches in their Executive MBA program. He was recently voted professor of the year. Scott has also gained great insight into the inner workings of leadership and teams through over 20 years of leading climbing expeditions.

Peter Love
Founder & Chairman, Love Energy Consultants


Peter Love recently formed Love Energy Consultants Inc.'s to foster culture change as part of his commitment to advancing sustainability. He provides strategic advice as a consultant, associate, facilitator or director on an individual basis or as an associate with selected firms.

In 2005, Peter was recruited as Ontario's first Chief Energy Conservation Officer with the Ontario Power Authority where his focus was on providing leadership in electricity conservation and advancing a conservation culture in Ontario. He was a leader in setting among the most aggressive targets for conservation in North America and reported that Ontario met its first conservation target of a five percent peak demand reduction by the end of 2007.

In recognition of Peter's commitment to sustainable buildings and energy efficiency, he was inducted into the EnerQuality/R-2000 Hall of Fame and earned a Lifetime Achievement Award from Sustainable Buildings Canada.

Peter has an MBA and BA from the University of Toronto and recently completed the Directors Education Program from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Bob Matheson
General Manager, Mountain Equipment Co-op Toronto


Bob Matheson has been in the retail business for over 25 years. In that time he has worked and led in a large variety of positions, from front line sales to Senior Management, and in a diverse group of areas, from warehousing to operations, Bob is currently General Manager of Mountain Equipment Co-op's Toronto store. With his current employer, Mountain Equipment Co-op, Bob has been instrumental in the expansion of the Co-op from less than a hundred thousand members to its current membership of over 2.5 million. As part of the team that developed and codified MEC's Purpose, Mission and Values, Bob helped to guide, clarify and communicate the high standards of ethical practice that MEC has become known for. As a representative of MEC, Bob has served on its environment committee, acted as an agent to community groups and other organizations, and been a spokesperson at numerous talks and discussions on MEC's business and sustainability practices. In his time away from work Bob is very active in outdoor pursuits a board member of the Ontario tourism outdoor committee and works with other outdoor community groups in areas such as public access to the outdoors, conservation and safety.

Robert G. White, CMC, PEng, MBA, BASc
President, B.R.I. International Inc.


Robert G. White represents Canadian industry on the international ISO working group writing ISO 26000 Social Responsibility. As President of B.R.I. International Inc. he has over 20 years experience implementing and auditing risk management systems for quality, environment, health and safety, social accountability and sustainability in private and public sector organizations including water and wastewater utilities. He is an advisor to business associations and their members, including the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Brazilian Industry and the Confederation of Indian Industry. Bob has also trained management consultants in Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Colombia, India, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and the USA to implement management systems and a process for CSR. This includes helping the Confederation of Indian Industry to create the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development.

Maria Franke-Gunther, M.Sc.

Maria is the Curator of Mammals and is responsible for the mammal collection at the Toronto Zoo. She holds a M.Sc. in Biodiversity Management and a Diploma in Endangered Species Management through Kent University - Durrel Institute of Conservation and Ecology. Maria is the AZA Institutional Representative for 30 Species Survival Plans (SSPsŪ) and 21 Taxon Advisory Groups (TAGs) relating to the Zoo's mammal collection and is a member of the Tiger SSP Committee. Maria oversees the captive breeding and recovery programs for the highly endangered Black-footed ferret (BFF) and Vancouver Island marmot (VIM) and is an active member of the VIM Captive Management & Recovery Group, Canadian BFF & Prairie Dog Recovery Team, Black-footed ferret SSP and the Black-footed Ferret Recovery Implementation Team. Maria is also the CAZA representative for the AZA Tiger and Snow Leopard SSP/TAG and a member of the CAZA Conservation and Canadian Collection Planning Committees.

Dave Ireland
Curator of conservation programs, Toronto Zoo


Dave Ireland is the Curator of Conservation Programs at the Toronto Zoo and is responsible for guiding Zoo operations, procedures and programs toward sustainable development and messaging. He works closely with the Zoo animal curators and assists on exhibit design and education messaging.

Dave holds a BSc. Honours in Biology and Chemistry from Mount Allison University and a MSc. in Ecology from Trent University. He Chairs the internal Zoo "Green Team" and sits on a variety of external committees related to sustainable development, including: the Biodiversity Education and Awareness Network (BEAN), the Education Alliance for a Sustainable Ontario (EASO) and the Education Alliance Steering Committee. Dave also coordinates a 4th year Conservation Biology course at the University of Toronto at Scarborough titles "The role of zoos in conservation", and frequently provides lectures to community groups, university seminar series and businesses. Dave lives with his wife and two daughters in Little India in Toronto.

Quentin Stossel
ECOexecutives Coordinator, Toronto Zoo


Quentin was brought on board to develop, market and produce the ECOexecutives series in its launch year.

He has a Master's in Environmental Science from the University of Toronto and over 3 years of business experience in the construction sector. Armed with an understanding of both sides of the story, Quentin aspires to bridge the gap between business and the environment. He is committed to achieving that seemingly elusive middle ground where both lucrative profits are won and the environment is respected so that our children's children may continue to enjoy it.




Julie Matthews
Director Carbon Advisory Services, e3 Solutions Inc.


Julie has played a leadership role in the development of carbon management and energy conservation programs for organizations across North America. Under Julie's direction, e3 provides Carbon Advisory Services to clients so that they can navigate through the mosaic of carbon requirements. Her seventeen years of experience within the energy and building industry allows e3 to strategically advise clients on their carbon and energy management requirements. Julie has dedicated her career to working with organizations to help them understand the role of and importance of measuring, monitoring, and verifying activities to significantly reduce risk and promote a focus on the economic, environmental, and social bottom line (TBL). e3 Solutions is an industry-leading developer of Enterprise Carbon Management Systems (e3ECM) and Carbon Accounting Tools (e3CAT).

Anthony Watanabe, PhD
President and CEO, Innovolve Group

Chris Winter
Executive Director, Conservation Council of Ontario


Chris Winter is the Executive Director of the Conservation Council of Ontario, a provincial association of organizations and individual conservation leaders. He excels in turning the complexity of the green movement into simple concepts and catalytic projects designed to help build a united conservation movement. Through "We Conserve", the Council's flagship campaign, Chris has helped develop community networks for Live Green Toronto, and developed a "Buy Green" campaign to link and promote green business. His previous project ideas include the highly successful Jane's Walk (now in over 50 municipalities) and the Doors Closed campaign to support stores that don't air-condition their sidewalks.

Scott Rouse, P. Eng., MBA, CEM, CSDP

Chantal Brundage

Lillian Mendoza

Lillian Mendoza graduated with a Business Administration degree and as Valedictorian from Lakehead University in 1997. She is currently pursuing her MBA from Aspen University. In 1999, she founded Corporate Sports Inc. (CSI) to promote team spirit, fitness and fun through healthy competition. The sports leagues proved to increase team building, energy, wellness and productivity while reducing stress and absenteeism. Ten years later, CSI extends its wellness services to offer financial wellness and literacy to help reduce employee stress and help businesses and employees is transition. Her introduction to social responsibility in the summer of 2009 has led her to promote the link between wellness and social responsibility within the workplace. She invites various decision makers from small to medium-sized corporations to learn more about the need for both companies and employees to become personally sustainable. The learning sessions she coordinates connects businesses to wellness and socially responsible professionals.

Giovanna Berry
