Northern cricket frog

Acris crepitans
  • Tadpole length 36-38mm; eyes dorso-lateral
  • Body light brown with dark, round flecks; tail musculature unicoloured with black markings
  • Tail fin clear; may have light spots; tip of tail distinctly black
  • Intestinal coil visible; vent dextral; tooth rows: 2/2; very short spiracle
  • Eggs: laid singly or in small clusters attached to leaves, plants, or twigs
  • Habitat: ponds and drainage ditches in woodlands and meadows; in Canada found only on Pelee Island in Lake Erie
  • COSEWIC:ENDANGERED; OMNR: ENDANDGERED
