Hyla versicolor
  • Tadpole length 32-38mm; eyes lateral
  • Body is round to oval and brownish-green; tail musculature same colour as body
  • Tail fin is red or orange with black mottling; bright colouring is possibly related to the presence of predators: in ponds without predators tail may be less pigmented; narrow tip can move independently of rest of tail
  • Intestinal coil visible; vent dextral; tooth rows: 2/3
  • Eggs: laid in loose irregular clusters of about 10- 40; attached to plant stems or grasses near the water surface; deposited near shoreline
  • Habitat: ponds near woodlands
