TURTLES IN ONTARIO
There are 8 species of turtles in Ontario (the Painted turtle has two sub-species)
Musk Turtle (Sternotherus odoratus)
Spotted Turtle (Clemmys guttata)

Midland Painted Turtle (Chrisemys picta marginata)
Western Painted Turtle (Chrisemys picta bellii)
Map Turtle (Graptemys geographica)
Wood Turtle (Glyptemys insculpta)
Blanding's Turtle (Emydoidea blandingii)
Eastern Spiny Soft Shell Turtle (Apalone spinifera spinifera)
Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina serpentina)
Preserving turtle habitat
Red-Eared Slider Often sold in pet stores but is not native to Ontario. Do not release any turtle into the wild that is not native to Ontario. They carry many diseases that may threaten our native turtles, and are not likely to survive.
