EXPLORE OUR NEW KIDS ZOO
A Dynamic, Interactive Children’s Wildlife Experience
Now there’s a unique place just for kids – and animals – at the Toronto Zoo.
Geared towards all ages but especially towards kids 9 and under, the Kids Zoo is
packed with interactive experiences, "close up and personal" animal and staff
encounters, touch tables, storyboards, and fun-tastic opportunities for kids to
be creative. We’ve organized the Kids Zoo into five Canadian habitat sections,
each jam-packed with lots of fun interactive activities.
Canadian Prairies:
Kids can burrow underground right through prairie dog territory and go nose
to nose with a black-tailed prairie dog in his plexiglas tunnel! How many
prairie dogs do you think live in a "town"?
Canadian Forest:
How about walking through a giant aviary with a two-story tree house in the
middle with an incredible view. Children and parents can enjoy a variety of wild
birds and animals to see including great horned owls, skunks, opossum, and
rabbits. Drop by the Forest Glade to catch a Keeper Talk, Animal Showing, or
whatever’s happening – from puppet shows to crafts!
Southern Saskatchewan Desert:
WOW – you’re in Dinosaur Country! Digging in the giant sand pit for "fossils"
is lots of fun. Before leaving this area, kids will have a ball crawling through
our giant snakeskin.
Wetland Habitat:
Mosey right up to the Muskrat Lodge, play in a fabulous giant bird’s nest or
touch some turtle eggs. Native frogs, toads, and birds will soon be setting up
house here.
Close Encounters:
Touch a miniature pig, or goat, our Border collie Burl, and more! We’ve kept
the animals here just the right size for children. Check out the Backyard
Wildlife Exhibit to meet your close neighbours. Let the kids have a climb on the
giant spider web.
Look for a rich and rewarding family experience that’s
different for you and your children every time you visit the new
Kids Zoo. Remember - positive experiences with smaller native animals may lead
to concern for endangered species everywhere!
Your family has likely already enjoyed two other elements of the Zellers
Discovery Zone; the colourful Splash Island, an exciting 2-acre water play area
which treats children of all ages to rollicking good fun amidst the variety of
Canada’s wetlands; and the fabulous 750-seat Waterside Theatre, home of the
Amazing Animal Show.
