2008 is Year of the Frog!!

The year 2008 has been declared "Year of the Frog" by Amphibian ARK (AArk).  This is an international collaboration derived from 3 conservation groups: the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), the IUCN/SSC Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG), and the IUCN/SSC Amphibian Specialist Group (ASG).  AArk is dedicated to aiding the global amphibian crisis.  For more information on Year of the Frog, visit their website!

FrogWatch and Turtle Tally Appreciation Day a HUGE Success!!

Adopt-A-Pond would like to thank all those that attended the FrogWatch and Turtle Tally Appreciation Day! With talks from Bob Johnson (Toronto Zoo Curator of Amphibians and Reptiles), author Andrew Westoll, teacher and naturalist Don Scallen and Adopt-A-Pond coordinator Ian McIntosh the day was a huge success. Visits from Hanzel the Blanding’s turtle, Lucky the Painted turtle, some very special Blue Poison Dart frogs and one VERY large toad were some of the other highlights of the day, along with lunch and access to Toronto Zoo exhibits. As always your submissions are invaluable contributions to the conservation of Ontario’s wetlands and their inhabitants. We hope that you all enjoyed the day as much as we did. See you next year and keep up the great work!
